If there was ever two words that incite more speculation and innuendo than any others, the words would have to be Michael Jackson. After a self-imposed exile in the middle-eastern country of Bahrain (where he was almost jailed for importing excessive amounts of painkillers) Jackson has reportedly returned to Las Vegas just in time to see former possessions, seized from his Neverland Estate, put up on the auction block. While a court injunction prevented the sale of his skin whitening creams and paintings of children, the collection (owned by Jackson's bankruptcy trustees) is expected to fetch upwards of 40 million dollars. Widely-trafficked celebrity blog Idolator weighed in with their opinion in their latest post. In what they have dubbed the “Jackson Family Going Out of Business Sale,” potential bidders can expect to find items “...including a Jackson's Japanese comic book, a signed photo of Tito from the Victory tour, and a pint of LaToya's facial fat.” You simply can't make this stuff up with the Jackson family. While having your possessions sold by bankruptcy trustees usually indicates a little bit of financial trouble, it appears as though MJ himself has been on another infamous shopping trip- this time for artist's song catalogs. Asshat Hollywood broke the news in their latest post titled “I thought He Was Broke.” AH observes that, “Wacko [Jackson] bought Famous Music LLC from Viacom for an undisclosed amount and now owns the rights to songs by Shakira, Beck, and Bjork, as well as Eminem under the transaction.” AH closed the post with a wry comment, “So I guess this means we'll be hearing "Stan" in a Nike commercial soon.”
VH1's Best Week Ever blog offered some scathing comments on Jackson's latest purchase, “Kind of interesting to see an influential black artist mooching off Beck, isn't it?” In their Listen Up section, they openly wonder “Does MJ stand for MusicMogul Jackson?”
Nobody seems to be quite sure how Michael Jackson's possessions seem to be flying out the front door while millions of dollars in artist catalogs seem to come in the back door.
