Many people find that by using crate training, it is the best thing you could do for your dog while training him or her and would recommend you to do it. Simply because many people find using crates is only for travelling with your dog or visiting the vet, they never think of it as an actual training method. Although, it is actually a very beneficial way for you to train your dog and has positive results for both you as the owner and teacher and your dog as the student.

All puppies get into the mode of taking naps frequently throughout the day and each time your dog becomes tired you should put him or her into the crate and close the door. This will help prevent any accidents before or after he or she wakes up. At the beginning, you may want to put a blanket and a puppy training pad into the crate for percautions as it will take your dog a while to get used to using the bathroom in the crate.

When your dog wakes up you should immediately take him or her outside to use the bathroom because it gives your puppy the sense of using the bathroom outside which is the ultimate goal to achieve. After a few days your puppy should be able to manage going to the crate by him or her self and using the bathroom as well as wanting to use the bathroom outside.

You could also use the crate as the place where your dog sleeps at night so he or she becomes more comfortable with the area but it is another decision that is up to you. If you wish to train your dog to use your bathroom outside then don't let him or her become too comfortable with using the crate and increase the amount of times that you take your dog outside to use the bathroom but always do it at the right times.

Do not put your dog in the crate as a punishment if he or she does something wrong, simply because then the dog will relate it to a bad spot to be in and will not use the bathroom in there which may result in your puppy not being trained properly.
