Many people nowadays have a digital camera, which is perfect for taking pictures of your pet and entering them in the petmillions.com contest. Unlike 'old skool' cameras, digi cams mean you can keep snapping till you get something you like, without having to worry about processing costs. You can also easily upload your images to the contest.
BUT... most digital cameras default to the best image resolution possible, which can mean image sizes of 2 megabytes or more. This is obviously unworkable in terms of uploading to the http://www.petmillions.com website, as for one thing, the upload would take AGES, and secondly, the maximum image size petmillions allow is about 100Kb. So how do you get the image resized to fit?
Your images must be in either jpg, jpeg, gif or png format. Most cameras come with some sort of image editing software. Use that software to resize the image. Try 400 to 500 pixels wide - this is pretty good for most images and will reduce the file size automatically.
When saving the resized image, check the compression or quality setting on the "save as" option and set it in the middle if it is using words like 'good, better and best' quality. If it talks about "compression" then use something between 10-25% and if it allows you to set "jpeg quality", use a number between 75-85%. That setting will help make the file smaller and faster without affecting the dimensions of the image. Surprisingly, to the naked eye, the quality of the image will still probably be pretty good too.
Be aware that jpg format is ALWAYS best - you can get excellent image compression without sacrificing quality, and just about ALL browsers, no matter how old, are able to show the image so people can vote for your entry in the http://www.petmillions.com pet image contest.
Remember to always save the original copy of your image in a safe place, a 'digital negative' if you will. If you make a mistake while editing you can always start over with the original image.
If you are STILL having problems, try the petmillions.com image resizing guide. Good luck in the contest! And don't spend the million all at once!
