Hello and welcome to part 6 in the building a show car series. Today we are going to look at the display of a show car at a car show.
If you've put all that time, money and effort into building a show car you're going to want to get a good display to show it off. At car shows a lot of the time two cars will end up in a tie, and it's the car that has the best display that wins. On the judging sheet displays sometimes have their own category, can be awarded extra credit or can be used as a tie breaker if a tie comes around.
The display ranges from the basic display which will just be a description board by the side of the car, to the really elaborate displays with the whole car elevated 4 or 5 feet off the ground on top of a spinning turntable with all 4 rims off showing off the rotors, lots of mirrors underneath the car showing off the undercarriage and all of this on top of a coloured carpet that matches the car.
The more elaborate displays obviously cost more money but allow you to show more parts of your car off for example if you've chromed the whole undercarriage people can see this with the mirrors instead of just reading about it on the description board.
If you choose to have a display be creative and don't just copy someone else's idea, be unique and original. The last thing you want the judge's to think is that you are a copier and that you are doing it to fit in with the other cars. This goes for the car too as I have mentioned in previous articles the car should be for you and the car should be different from the rest, building a show car is like an art and you are the artist, the same goes for the display of the car as well.
If you are going to a night show, you can get creative and can use a whole array of gadgets such as strobe lights, laser machines, disco balls, fog machines, led and neon light kits etc. On the other hand if you are going to a daytime show you'll want to emphasise any special qualities about the car such as the suspension, undercarriage or anything that sets it aside from the rest.
Stay tuned for the final part in the building a show car series looking at the engine/motor on Monday.
