Ah Yes! Watermelons. They Are Indeed A Fruit. Known by the ancient Egyptians, and native to tropical Africa, watermelons are now cultivated on every continent. They are more than 90% water and quite popular with dieters. Watermelons are grown for their sweet, juicy interiors and in some countries for their edible seeds. They are an excellent source of vitamins A, B6, C, rich in potassium and very high in lycopene, which is a very heart-healthy phytochemical. To maintain all their health giving benefits the best flavor, sweetness, and size, watermelons need to stay on the vine till just that magic moment Oh, and store them at room temperature.

Watermelons are classified into groups according to fruit shape, rind color or pattern, and weight. There are over 1200 varieties of grown worldwide in 96 countries. They are green on the surface and usually red inside but not all cultivated watermelons are red. Yellow watermelons are all natural. Actually watermelons are available in many colors, shapes and types; round, oval and square? red, yellow, pink, orange. Seedless watermelons are produced on highly sterile triploid plants, which result from crossing a normal diploid plant with a tetraploid. Personal-size and mini size are an expanding market. Most of the unusual watermelons are small-fruited varieties and one of the most unusual is called Moon. Watermelons are easy to raise. Anyone growing them for size will need to stick with traditional watermelons, which may reach gigantic proportions.

In conclusion, to achieve the best flavor, sweetness, and size, watermelons need to stay on the vine to ripe. Select melons that are heavy for their size. Watermelons are available in many sizes, shapes, and colors. They are an excellent source of A, C, B vitamins and antioxidants. With 95 per cent water content, the highest of any fruit, watermelons are very juicy and refreshing, with a moderate to sweet taste. Well, seedless watermelons are supposed to be more flavorful and meaty than seeded varieties. What about a new comer, square watermelons? Are they REAL?
