I AM SO GRATEFUL for little things that matter. Whether it's a
shoulder to cry on Or consoling words from another, A great big
bear hug or a soothing foot rub, The smallest things make the
biggest difference. I AM SO GRATEFUL for affectionate touch.
Cradling an infant to my breast Or fitting a child's hand
snuggly in mine, Tenderly planting a kiss on the cheek, and
holding tight to those I love. I AM SO GRATEFUL for honoring the
"child" in me. Eating all the brownies my heart desires, Or
teasing a kitchen with a ball of string, Smiling at puppies
through the window of a pet store, And having a fit of giggles
over something silly. I AM SO GRATEFUL for tiny delights.
Finding a forgotten twenty-dollar bill in a jacket pocket,
Threading the eye of a needle on the very first try, Sniffing a
bouquet of pretty, pink peonies, And sitting after twilight
watching fireflies glow. I AM SO GRATEFUL for the "good stuff"
life is made up of. Receiving an unexpected pay raise at work,
Running into an old acquaintance by chance, Throwing a Frisbee
for my dog on the run, And sending flowers to a friend for no
reason. I AM SO GRATEFUL for gentle sounds. The rippling gurgle
of a flowing brook, A miniature chime tinkling in the wind, A
tranquilizing purr from a contented cat, And baby's first word
tickling me pink. I AM SO GRATEFUL for contemplating stillness.
When the birds become still And a dog's barking stops And a
downpour ends And a baby's crying ceases.
