While they look nothing more than pieces of papers or stationeries, wedding invitations to some couples are an integral part of the wedding. That's because it is where the guests are informed about the important information regarding the wedding, from the couple's names, to the people who will take part in it like bridesmaids and groomsmen, down to the location of the ceremony. If you are having a wedding months from now and are on a budget, you don't have to skip the wedding invitations just to save money; here are some things you can consider doing to save money on wedding invitations.
1. The amount of wedding invitations you will send depends on the number of guests you have, for obvious reasons. You will get to save more money if you have fewer guests to invite because you'll buy less materials, and you might just do the invitations your own.
2. Consider doing the invitations your own. For the design, download some of them on the web or have a talented friend (or an art student) do the design for you.
3. You can save on the materials by buying them from a craft store, or in bulk from a party warehouse (if you have a large guest list).
4. Use your own printer when printing the invitations. Chances are great that nobody would care enough where you have them made. After all, invitations only serve their purpose by informing the guests about the important details of the wedding. Why should they fuss over the little matters?
5. You can even save more if you skip the RSVP and have them tell you personally or by phone or email whether they will come or not.
6. Skip the reception cards and just insert the details of the reception inside the wedding invitations.
7. Consider having a wedding blog or newsletter so that all the guests (even the people living far away) will know the important details and preparations for your wedding.
While they are important to inform your guests about the details of your wedding, they should not take a huge part of your budget by doing things your way instead of hiring professional services for you. Nobody will even care enough if you make them from inexpensive craft store materials, because your guests will throw them away anyway after the wedding is over. So prepare to roll up your sleeves and expect to do things your own if you would like to save money for your wedding. The more you do things your own, the more savings you will get.
