You've got the coolest Jeep. The question is "do you know where to lead it?"

A website named "4wheel Drive" lists ways on how to find new trails and maps in your area.

1. Since the internet is available 24/7, check out an online list of 4x4 trails and maps. It is probably the easiest.

2. Join a local 4x4 league. Aside from exploring new trails, you'll also have the knowledge and experience, as well as personal assistance.

Many states, or sometimes regions, also have an Association of 4WD Clubs. These organizations support to connect you with the most active, best club for your specific interest and abilities. These organizations are also up-to-date with the latest land issues in your area, and they work to keep public lands open to public access.

3. Have a trail map or guidebook. They are available in four-wheel drive accessory stores, map stores, and in the internet; but they vary in the degree of detail they provide. An atlas will help you locate the public lands in your area like State Parks, State Recreation Areas, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), State Forests, National Forests, Off Highway Vehicle Areas (OHV), and State Vehicular Recreation Areas (SVRA).

Other sources of maps are those who manage the public lands in your area. The Bureau of Land Management, for example, provides a variety of maps and Desert Access Guides, and the National Forest Service maps are great because they clearly indicate dirt roads and hiking trails, and whether a road is strictly a 4X4 road or not.

4. Consult your local phone book. Locations of public lands are found on Government pages (usually a different color than the rest of the pages). Locations of lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management are found under the "U.S. Department of Agriculture". For state parks, forests, and recreation areas, browse to the "Department of Environment and Conservation" or "Department of Environment and Protection" pages. And look under the "City Government" pages for city parks and recreation areas.

Contact the office managing the land you would like to explore and ask for the person who is in charge of back road activities or off-road driving. Aside form the directions on the trailhead and basic guidelines for off-road travel, each office should also be able to provide you with trail maps and other material about the surrounding area so that you will not be ignorant of the area. They usually mail the information to you, or you can pick it up on-site.

But there is another thing to note. Before leaving, make sure all your Jeep CJ parts are in sound condition. You will not appreciate the wonders of the place you are directed to if a single Jeep part will spoil your trip.
