I've always thought that Spiderman/
Was much more realistic than/
The alter ego of Clark Kent/
In whom no one could make a dent.
The venerable English scribe, John Milton/
Had a separate dwelling specifically built in/
To his house for his mother-in-law, whom he disdained/
When she left in a huff, he wrote Paradise Regained.
How in the world did Rush Limbaugh/
Whom the ultra-right regards with awe/
Keep his job when the greatest democracy/
Voted him addicted to utter hypocrisy?
This type of humorous poem was invented by English writer E. Clerihew Bentley (1875-1956).
