In my 27 years, I've lived in 4 houses, 3 apartments, and 3 dorm rooms (with only one of those moves happening before I turned 18). I think I know a little something about moving. As I'm about to make my 10th move, I decided to think back on my experiences to see if I can make this trip a little easier on myself.

No one really likes to move (well, there always has to be that one weird person, right?), but there are a few simple things you can do to ease the process. As with any big project, it can help to break it down into smaller tasks. Move from one to another and before you know it, you'll be finished!

Here are some tips on moving:

Organize: First, make a plan. Tackle one room at a time, or one box at a time, but before you even begin, choose your plan. Make a list of rooms or areas that need to be cleaned and packed up. As you finish each one, cross it off your list.

Be Efficient: Pack things you won't need first Books or entertainment items like video games and movies are good items to pack first. They may serve as distractions, anyway. Pack things you'll need often, like phones and health and beauty items last.

Packing Tip #1: Weigh In: While packing, it's important not to place all your heavy items in one box. Remember, someone's going to have to lift it! Mix heavy and light objects so the weight won't be too much for lifting.

Packing Tip #2: Label Everything!: It can take quite some time to unpack in your new place, but you'll probably need some items immediately. Label your boxes in as much detail as you think you'll need. You can even include a sheet of paper with an itemized list of its contents on top of each box. It may seem like a tedious task while you're moving, but once you're moved, you'll be happy you did it.

Enlist Help: Who says you have to move alone? Enlist the help of family and friends to help ease the process. Feeding your helpers is always a good idea to show your gratitude, and returning the favor when they need help while moving is another good idea.

Unpacking: Once you're moved in, start unpacking. Find the items you'll need right away, and unpack those first. For the rest, unpack one box at a time. Find a place for everything to avoid cluttering up your new place. Before you know it, you'll be unpacked and settled in!
