Absinthe is a delicious treat to enjoy on special occasions and when you want to impress your friends. This is the most straightforward way to drink absinthe. There are "absinthe cocktails" as well, but this is the traditional method. Enjoy!

How to Drink Absinthe

There are a couple of different ways to drink absinthe. The most popular is the Traditional Method, which is as follows:

You will need:

-Absinthe and a glass.

-An absinthe spoon (or regular slotted spoon).

-Sugar cube(s)

-Ice cold water.

Process:

-Pour about one shot worth of absinthe into a glass.

-Place the absinthe spoon on the glass.

-Put a sugar cube on the spoon.

-Slowly pour four to six parts ice-cold water over the sugar cube so that it dissolves in the absinthe. (five parts water to one part absinthe is about the average ratio.)

-Stir and drink!

There is another method called the Czech Method, which is a lot of fun!

Same idea as the traditional method, but here is the difference:

-After you pour the shot of absinthe, dip the sugar cube so that it absorbs some of the liquid.

-Put the sugar cube on the absinthe spoon and hold it a few inches above the glass.

-Light the sugar cube with a match or lighter. Let the sugar cube flame and caramelize, dripping into the absinthe.

-Pour the water into the glass, stir, and drink!

Now that it is a treat!

If you are new to the world of absinthe, you can easily learn all about absinthe and its legal status.
