Some important facts for Australian business owners.
Domain Names.
Purchasing a .com.au requires an ABN. A standard price for a
.com.au is about $100AUD
Try to buy a domain that has your main product/keywords in it.
For example abc.com.au tells us nothing, but kidsclothes.com.au
tells us what you are about.
And the search engines will love you for this!
Remmeber, with domain names, small is beautiful - you are going
to have to spell it to lots of people everyday, so be consise.
Your Website.
Most people browse the search engines for purchases these days,
so you have to be listed. There are no real magic solutions to
get you on Google page 1, but if you do the following, it will
maximise your chances of a great listing:
1.Search engine friendly design. No frames, redirects, over use
of flash/scripting.
2. Good Meta. A Title tag, description tag with keywords,
relevant keywords, and these keywords actually in your pages
will make a difference.
3. Linking. Link to good, popular sites. The search engines will
think your website is worth listing if other websites link to it
- relevancy by popularity.
4. DONT waste money on any "get you on google page 1" claims -
simply a waste of money.
With a little bit of hard work each month you can maximise your
chances of getting listed well in the Search engines.
Ask your web designer these important questions, dont just
accept them at face value.
